What You Think You
Know
About American Indians
Activity: Simple
questionnaire, used for discussion
purposes.
Description: A good place to begin
understanding Native People as
they
are, not as popular media and modern culture supposes us to be.
What is
truth, and what is myth or outright lie?. This workshop
is designed to dispel the stereotypes, mysticism, and "New Age" ideas
that have become associated with
1st Nations People.

500 Nations:
An Introduction to Native
Diversity
Activity: Classroom interaction, Creating
a map showing the
different locations of 1st Nations People.
Description: This would stress to the participant that Native
American 1st Nations are different. We are not all part of the
melting pot that was assigned to us upon the invasion of the
Europeans. This workshop will discuss 1st Nations peoples by
their general locations, with brief descriptions of their lifestyles,
living conditions and if time, some information on their clan systems.

Activity: Classroom interaction,
Q&A session. Cards or Books
will be provided to the participants.
Description: This workshop is designed to teach the values needed
to promote healthy living for yourself, in your family and in your
community.

Teachings of the Circle
Activity: Produce a medicine
wheel. Hoops, yarn, paper
and paints will be provided along with instructions to make your own
medicine wheel.
Description: In this workshop, we will discuss the natural
balance of life as
represented by the Medicine Wheel, including the Cycle of Life
around the
Wheel, and the
significance of the Colors.

Rock
Writings
Activity: Lecture and Discussion. We will
paint a rock using the symbols discussed.
Description: A detailed information session about the petroglyphs
and their significance in and around the Great Lakes.
10-30 participants.

History
of this Area
Description: Lecture, Power Point, and
Video presention from a Native perspective of the history of the
Original People who lived here where 3 Great Lakes come together; from
the Straights to the Soo along the shores of Eastern Lake
Superior, the St. Mary's River, Lake Huron, The Mackinaw Straights, and
Lake Michigan.
10-30 participants.

Introduction to the
Anishnaabeg
Activity: Lively classroom interaction.
Description: Learn to speak
a little Anishnaabeg. Beginning conversational Ojibwe in two to
four hour sessions. Including essential phrases, greetings and
questions.

Rattle Making (10 years
and up)
Activity: Producing a rattle using raw
hide or gourds (depending
on the availability of the gourds).
Description: A brief oral presentation: Introduction to the
Rattle, it's
uses in modern Native American, followed by instruction and assistance
in the construction of
rattles.
10-20 participants - Materials Provided, cost varies.

Beaded Earrings
Activity: Producing a small pair of
beaded
earrings.
Description: Instruction on the construction
of small beaded earrings.

Activity: Making a dream catcher.
Description: A short story about
dream catchers, their significance and use.

Pow Wow Workshop:
Understanding Regalia
Activities: A short film followed by
expert guidance and
assistance in understanding the significance of Regalia design. (A
Television or Monitor and DVD player should be available to
the presenter of this workshop.)
In the classroom, after the presentation, attendees will have an
understanding
of regalia
design elements, realizing the various forms and patterns are
not just "pretty pictures". We will then paint either what
your apron, or fancy shawl pattern would look like. Participants
will have an opportunity to participate in a Talking Circle to
share the story of their regalia designs.

Think about Hosting a Mini Pow Wow !!
We are able to provide a Mini Pow Wow, with
Dancers to
explain their regalia and types of dances. A Drum to provide
information on the types of songs and the drum. This Mini Pow Wow
is a much more elaborate, labor intensive workshops. Costs may include
lodging, board, and travel
expenses, as well as honorariums for the Dancers and Singers.
